Staff Book Reviews: New Non-Fiction

Posted by Cary H.

I don’t remember how I first heard about Banksy.  That was the neat thing – he surfaced in our media then our consciousness.  The illusive Banksy is a pseudonym for the United Kingdom-based graffiti artist, political activist, film director, and painter.  He uses wall art – his very creative extension of graffiti – to make humorous as well as scathing commentary about our 21st century world.  His mysterious identity has fueled his popularity.  Anyone who watches the news or follows art-related social media has by now heard of him.  He, and other artists like him, have inspired a whole new generation of artists to challenge our ideas about public art and graffiti in really wonderful ways.  Many major cities across the globe now boast huge murals on prominent buildings.  This art is everywhere.  I can’t describe it.  You really need to see it for yourself.
