Movies Inspired by Graphic Novels

Posted by Devin G.

Graphic novels are something I have loved ever since I was a child. When art and story meet there is magic! After reading one, I always reflect on what an interesting reading experience it was.

Many graphic novels are turned into movies. Recent films like The Avengers, Persepolis, and Scott Pilgrim vs. the World have obviously drawn from their source material.  Other movies based off graphic novels, though, are not as easy to identify.  Below are some lesser known movies inspired by graphic novels.

2 Guns (2013). Neither Bobby nor Marcus realizes that the other is an undercover DEA agent. After a mission gone bad, the two must go on the run for fear of going to jail or being hunted down by drug cartels.

Weird Science (1985). Teenage misfits Gary and Wyatt design their ideal woman on a computer, and thanks to a freak electrical accident, end up bringing her to life.

A History of Violence (2005). Diner owner, Tom, is thrust into the spotlight when a pair of criminals attempt to rob him. This new attention however, ends up bringing Tom’s past back to haunt him.

Timecop (1994). In a future where time travel has been perfected, the fate of the world rests in Officer Walker’s hands.

Ghost World (2001). Enid and Rebecca are going to graduate high school soon and must come to terms with what they really want.

From Hell (2001). Starring Johnny Depp, this movie focuses on the horrific crimes of Jack the Ripper.

Oblivion (2013). In the year 2077, Jack Harper works as a security repairman on an Earth that was ravaged after a war with aliens. Two weeks before his mission is supposed to end, his concept of reality is shattered.

RED (2010). Retired CIA agent Frank Moses reassembles his teammates after being attacked by hit men.

Sabrina the Teenage Witch (1996). After being sent to live with her eccentric aunts, Sabrina discovers that she is a witch.

Men in Black (1997). Agents Jay and Kay work for an unofficial government agency that deals with all things alien.
