It's All in Your Head

Posted by Zach H.

There are certain stories that have the ability to get under your skin and fester in your imagination. As you read them you may find that you see the world slightly different than before. To me, these authors have the ability to make monsters out of shadows and take the reader's imagination on a (suspenseful at times) joyride. Enjoy, and remember that it's all in your head.

Henry’s take on Alice in Wonderland is a dark spin on the classic tale that achieves a perfect grimness without being too crude. It’s an interesting view of time’s effect on memories.

Embodying the Greek myth of the Labyrinth, this novel can be quite challenging at times, but rewarding once you finish reading.

Harkaway managed to blend several genres and make an entertaining book. It’s a not-so-typical post-apocalyptic book that has comedy, science-fiction, fantasy, and interesting characters all-in-one.

Written during the Vietnam War, this novel takes place in a secret military installation where military prisoners are experimented on with the goal of creating geniuses.

Rounding out the list is a dark and magical fairytale by Gaiman. Like Christina Henry’s Alice, Gaiman’s story deals with memories and how they can change over time. It is a short and entertaining read.
