Books in the News: Amazing Book-Related Videos

Posted by Staff

We're always on the lookout for interesting items about books and recently found some great videos.  First up is a post from the University of Iowa Archives.  The book shown here ( Autumn: or; The Causes, Appearances, and Effects of the Seasonal Decay and Decomposition of Nature, 1837 by Robert Mudie) is one of a series with fore-edge painted pages.  The images can only be seen when the pages are fanned out.  The paintings are amazingly detailed and totally hidden when the book is in a normal configuration.  For more about the books and gif animations revealing the paintings, visit the original post on Tumblr.

The second video was posted by the Seattle Public Library.  They decided to kick off their summer reading program in a special way - by breaking the world record for book dominoes. After watching the video, all we could think about was reshelving all those books!
