Eye-Catching Picture Books - October 2014

Posted by Youth Service Staff

We feel very lucky that we get to see all of the new picture books as they are added to the Children's Library. Here are some of the new picture books that have caught our eye for being cute, having really nice illustrations, or a great story.

The Pout-pout Fish Goes to School by Deborah Diesen. Bright ocean colors and playful rhyme come together in this fun fish story that’s sure to turn even the poutiest of frowns upside down.

Penguin on Vacation by Salina Yoon.  Penguin's tired of the snow and cold--so he decides to go on vacation! But where should he go? And what new friends will he meet along the way?

That Pup! by Lindsay Barrett George. After having fun digging up acorns, a little dog decides to bury them all again. Cute puppy, need we say more?

Flora and the Penguin by Molly Idle.  In this wordless, lift-the-flap picture book, Flora and her new friend, thepenguin, dance on the ice together and learn to treat each other with respect and kindness.

Quest by Aaron Becker.  Colored markers in hand, two children  make their own way through the portal, under the sea, through a tropical paradise, over a perilous bridge, and high in the air with the help of a winged friend. Amazing illustrations.

Goatilocks and the Three Bears by Erica S. Perl.  Goatilocks gobbles more than porridge in this fractured fairy tale that puts a hilarious twist on a favorite story.

Hug Machine by Scott Campell.
This endearing story encourages a warm, caring, and buoyantly affectionate approach to life. Everyone deserves a hug-- and this book!
