The library recently received the Danette Ward Science Education Grant so that we
could put together Science Discovery Kits geared toward preschool
children. These are hands on learning kits with activities that children can do together
with an adult. Each kit has a scientific career theme, so children can also learn about what careers are in the
science field such as a chemist, botanist, and a entomologist just to name
a few. Each kit has many activities for children to do with an adult
present as well as books that they can read together. Come to the
library to check out one of these awesome kits today!
This kit contains a 40 Piece Wooden Architectural Blocks set, a large tape measure, a construction worker vest, hard hat, safety goggles, and tool belt with 5 tools. Use the 5 activity sheets to explore more about architecture. Three books are also included in this kit: The Budding Builder by Laura Laxton, Iggy Peck Architect by Andrea Beaty, and Construction by Sally Sutton.
This kit contains materials and tools that real botanists use in studying plants, including plant specimens, child-friendly garden tools and a handy tote. Use the 5 activity sheets to observe plants and how they change. Two books are included in this kit, The
Tiny Seed by Eric Carle and Tap the Magic Tree by Christie Matheson.
This kit contains a child-size lab coat, safety goggles, and a lab kit which includes a flask and stopper, magnifying glass, test tubes, beaker, and funnel. Use the 8 activity cards to do fun child-friendly chemistry experiments! This kit includes the books, The
Budding Scientist by Stephanie Roselli and I’m
a Scientist Kitchen by Lisa Burke.

Sea Life Creature Models. Use the 6 activity cards to learn more marine biology. First
Big Book of the Ocean by Catherine D. Hughes and I’m
the Biggest Thing in the Ocean by Kevin Sherry are also in this kit.
Some of the hands-on materials in this kit are 12 Museum Model Dinosaurs, 6 Dinosaur Rubbing Plates, 1 Giant Cloth Apatosaurus Footprint, Explorer Vest and Safari Hat, and a Dino-Dig Excavation Kit. Six activity cards are included as well as the books 1-2-3 Dinosaurs Bite! Illustrated
