Book Recommendations from our Teen Advisory Board: It's Teen Read Week!

It’s Teen Read Week, and if you’re on the hunt for your next read, we’ve got you covered! Check out these book and author recommendations, courtesy of some of our Teen Advisory Board members!

Halloween will be here before we know it. Get in the spirit of the season with these spooky short stories, suggested by Ben!

The Fall of the House of Usher by Edgar Allan Poe

The Cask of Amontillado by Edgar Allan Poe
A Rose for Emily by William Faulkner

The Monkey’s Paw by W.W. Jacobs
The Color Out of Space by H.P. Lovecraft
Thanasphere by Kurt Vonnegut, Jr.
All the King’s Horses by Kurt Vonnegut Jr.
The Yellow Wallpaper by Charlotte Perkins Gilman

Ben also recommends trying out Terry Pratchett, the British author who is mainly known for his series of books set on the fictional Discworld. He has a couple main characters that each have a few books written about them, and his novels often provide some sort of commentary on social issues.

Sam Vimes is a watchman that leads the defunct City Watch of the biggest city on the Discworld, Ankh-Morpork. Follow his journey to reform the Watch, starting with the book Guards! Guards!

Granny Weatherwax is the most senior witch on the Discworld, and she’s a no nonsense kind of person. She and her best friend, Nanny Ogg, wander the Disc trying to stop disasters! See her in action, and start with the book, Witches Abroad.

Death is a peculiar type of fellow. He has a morbid job, but he can see its necessity. He doesn’t really “get” humans, and tries his best to understand them while trying to stop catastrophes that threaten the Disc! See Death in action starting with the book Mort.

Emerson has many favorite books, and she keeps them close by in her room—check out a copy for yourself from the library!
